Psalm 23:2-3a reads, “He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.” These verses are about God’s provision. Yesterday we talked about all of the other voices in the world calling out to us, trying to own us. God provides a place of rest for our souls—a place of calm and peace, a place where we are His and His alone. This place is with Jesus. God tells us in Ezekiel 34:14-15 that He Himself will provide for His flock. We are His flock and Jesus is the provision. The peace that is available to us through Jesus Christ is the only truly restful peace. Notice I say that this peace is available—not thrust upon us. We must invite this peace into our hearts, just as we invite Jesus. Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). Jesus says, “Take my yoke” not “I’m placing my yoke upon you.” Take hold of Jesus’ peace and let Him share your burdens. He’s got strong shoulders—He bore the sins of the world, didn’t He? Do you know the peace that surpasses all understanding?
